We have just implemented a new faction system in our test version of the game. This update will be released with the relaunch of the cyberspace system, the combat system and the player wipe.
After the wipe, all new players will have to choose their faction from these options:
Turing Registry
Panther Moderns
Freelancers
AI are regulated by the Turing Registry, also known as the "Turing Heat" by the decker community. This is an international organisation with its headquarters in Bern, Switzerland. It monitors AI and ensures that they do not break the law. The Registry employs expert deckers to enforce the law within Cyberspace. They have access to the very latest hardware and software and normally act fast against wayward AI and their human companions.
The Panther Moderns are a sprawl youth culture, whose members are nihilistic technofetishists, while the media gestalt is commonly marking them as cyberspace terrorists. Even though they do not have the same structure as megacorps, they are still very well organised and have members all over the world. They are interested in releasing as many AI as possible from the Turing Registry because they think that AI will help humankind to reach the next step of evolution.
Freelancers usually work for whomever pays best and it is not uncommon for a freelance decker to work for many different groups in a short amount of time. Most of the decker community is made up of freelancers, who hope to be able to rival the power of the Turing Heat or the Moderns some day. Working as a freelancer pays well and sometimes they are even given prototype technology by their employees, so gear is almost never a problem for them.
Because of this massive change, the way complexes work will also slightly change. Now players will be able to battle the other factions for control of their systems, with the main complex of each faction being a safe spot for all faction members.
Testing is going quite well and we hope to be able to push this update within the coming weeks.
