Neuromancer Factions
Monday, March 5, 2007, 07:26 AM - Announcements
We have just implemented a new faction system in our test version of the game. This update will be released with the relaunch of the cyberspace system, the combat system and the player wipe.

After the wipe, all new players will have to choose their faction from these options:

Turing Registry
Panther Moderns
Freelancers

AI are regulated by the Turing Registry, also known as the "Turing Heat" by the decker community. This is an international organisation with its headquarters in Bern, Switzerland. It monitors AI and ensures that they do not break the law. The Registry employs expert deckers to enforce the law within Cyberspace. They have access to the very latest hardware and software and normally act fast against wayward AI and their human companions.

The Panther Moderns are a sprawl youth culture, whose members are nihilistic technofetishists, while the media gestalt is commonly marking them as cyberspace terrorists. Even though they do not have the same structure as megacorps, they are still very well organised and have members all over the world. They are interested in releasing as many AI as possible from the Turing Registry because they think that AI will help humankind to reach the next step of evolution.

Freelancers usually work for whomever pays best and it is not uncommon for a freelance decker to work for many different groups in a short amount of time. Most of the decker community is made up of freelancers, who hope to be able to rival the power of the Turing Heat or the Moderns some day. Working as a freelancer pays well and sometimes they are even given prototype technology by their employees, so gear is almost never a problem for them.

Because of this massive change, the way complexes work will also slightly change. Now players will be able to battle the other factions for control of their systems, with the main complex of each faction being a safe spot for all faction members.

Testing is going quite well and we hope to be able to push this update within the coming weeks.

NEWSFLASH Saturday 3rd of March 2035
Saturday, March 3, 2007, 10:26 AM - News
Welcome to the Third-Eye News Report for Saturday, the 3rd of March 2035

Headlines

- Population of the planet reaches 8.5 billion
- Synthetic brains now affordable by everyone
- Cybercowboys fool remote monitoring with VR
- Nanotechnology weapons used in modern wars

Today the population count of our planet reached 8.5 billion human beings. Specialists have been thinking for decades that Earth can only sustain up to 7 billion, but modern statistics are more precise and estimate at least a 12 billion mark, which could be reached within the next couple of centuries.

As the technology and materials for synthetic brain cells has gone down during the last decade, more and more people can afford to buy themselves some new gray cells. Stock price predictions state that prices should go way beyond the roof, if not the orbit within the next year. Human rights activists have been protesting in many capitols of the world as they see this technology as alienating and unethical for the human race.

The night guard of the Louvre in Paris had no idea what was happening inside one of the exhibition halls, while a group of burglars stole paintings worth several hundred million credits. A hacker (also called cybercowboys) in the team of thieves used a software that overrode the digital camera security system of the Louvre and uploaded a virtual reality simulation of the exhibition hall that was robbed.

Nanotechnology has been used for several decades now, mostly in medical, household, engineering and mechanical appliances. Nowadays, nanotechnology weapons fight wars for us and kill millions of people. This highly controversial method of war has been criticized by many but the governments of Earth have been using them because of their low cost and effectiveness. In the last decade over 500 million people have been killed by nanoweaponry.

MUD Access via Play Now! Link (Telnet)
Monday, February 19, 2007, 08:18 AM - Announcements
While you can play the MUD via the link in the box to the right, we highly recommend to use a proper MUD-client instead.

The advantages are many, as a MUD client allows for mapping, triggers and so on, while telnet has none of these features and makes mudding quite awkward.

We are writing this news item to let new mudders know that telnet is not the only way to connect to our game. It is just the easiest and the less user-friendly possibility.

We will be adding a new section about MUD clients for the various operating systems in the coming days.
